A Freeport shipping clerk was arrested on charges of stealing plumbing equipment over two years and selling parts on eBay, Nassau County police said.
David Bevilacqua, 36, of 576 Marion Dr. in East Meadow, was charged with second-degree grand larceny related to thefts from December 2013 to February of this year, police said.
Bevilacqua worked as a shipping clerk at the Green Art Plumbing company in Freeport when owners began to notice plumbing parts missing from the warehouse last year, police said. Bevilacqua was fired in February after an internal investigation by the company showed he was responsible for the loss, police said.
Parts continued to go missing after he was fired, prompting the company to call Nassau County police. Police said Bevilacqua posted plumbing parts on eBay and shipped stolen merchandise to online buyers around the country in exchange for payment through a PayPal account.
Police arrested Bevilacqua at his home Friday. He was arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead. He was released on conditional probation and ordered to return to court Tuesday for his next hearing, according to court records.
