Police said the two men went to the Astoria Federal Savings Bank on Atlantic Avenue at about 8:55 a.m. Police gave this account:
While one of the men held the bank employees at gunpoint, the other jumped over the counter and grabbed cash from three teller stations. He then forced one employee to take out cash from the ATM safe after being told that the employees could not open the bank's vault.
One man was described as being 6 feet tall, wearing all black, and holding a black pistol. The other man was 6 foot 1 and wore a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a white baseball cap.
