East Meadow man faces assault charge

An East Meadow man attacked another man outside a Newbridge Road bar and beat him with a baseball bat early Friday morning, Nassau County police said.

Joe Martins, 30, of 2332 Kenmore St., East Meadow, had earlier been inside Kiely's Bar and Grille where he argued with another patron, police said.

"Martins left the bar and returned a short time later armed with a baseball bat," at 2 a.m., a police news release said. "He confronted the victim outside the building striking him multiple times causing injuries to his left arm and cheek."

Martins fled but was soon found and arrested, police said. He was charged with assaulting the victim, a 33-year-old man, who was treated at a hospital and released, police said.

Martins was scheduled for arraignment Friday on a second-degree assault charge in First District Court, Hempstead.
