Nassau County police Major Case Bureau detectives arrested a 40-year-old East Rockaway man Monday, less than 12 hours after they said he robbed a Capital One Bank -- just blocks from his home.
Robert Land, of 104 2nd Ave., was arrested at his home at 8:27 p.m. and charged with third-degree robbery and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police said heroin was recovered during the arrest.
Police said the robbery at the bank branch on Main Street occurred at 9:45 a.m. Monday.
The suspect approached a teller, made a verbal demand and then passed a demand note to the teller, police said.
The teller complied.
Police said the suspect, later identified as Land, then fled on foot southbound on Baisley Avenue toward Davis Avenue.
The robbery scene is about one-quarter mile -- or, a handful of blocks -- from where Land lives on 2nd Avenue.
Police said there were six employees and three customers in the bank at the time of the robbery. No one was injured.
Land faces arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
