One person was rescued from a burning car after a four-vehicle crash that flipped a fuel tanker early Friday afternoon in Farmingdale, Nassau County police said.

Police said a Good Samaritan pulled the person from the car, and a “small fire was extinguished immediately.”

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after the vehicles collided shortly before 1 p.m. at Fulton Street and Elsie Place.

Diesel fuel leaked from the tanker, which landed on its side, prompting an “extensive cleanup,” police said.

Authorities closed Route 109 between Conklin and Main streets.

Photographs of the scene showed at least two of the cars had extensive damage, with one straddling a sidewalk.

The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately known.
