The Federal Emergency Management Agency and New York State Emergency Management Office will hold informational sessions for Long Island residents regarding potential flooding or hurricanes, as well as flood insurance and preparedness.
Low-lying areas of Long Island and those near rivers and streams have been devastated by rising groundwater brought on by torrential rains that have flooded basements, compromised septic systems and caused mold problems. Some homes have been affected since the October 2005 rains.
The sessions will take place at Home Depot and Lowe's centers across Long Island. All meetings will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through June 19.
