Firefighters from a handful of Nassau County departments were able to contain a late-morning fire at an East Meadow apartment complex to one apartment on Friday, limiting damage to the two-story building on Newbridge Road, fire officials said.
Nassau County police said the fire was reported in a 911 call at 11:05 a.m. There were no reported injuries, though fire officials said several firefighters had heat-related issues.
Responding to the scene were firefighters from North Bellmore, East Meadow, Wantagh and Bellmore, with ambulance crews from North Merrick, East Meadow and Bellmore. Firefighters from Wantagh, Levittown and Hicksville covered the firehouses whose personnel were active fighting the blaze. Crews were still on scene at 12:30 p.m., doing overhaul of the damaged apartment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal.
The American Red Cross in Greater New York on Friday afternoon assisted four residents displaced by the fire, providing temporary housing, health assistance, and money for necessities such as food and clothing, spokeswoman Katherine Walpole said.
