Four adults and a 15-year-old were arrested Tuesday evening in Oceanside after officers responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle observed one of the suspects hiding a license plate beneath his shirt.
Nassau County police said the group had two vehicles, both stolen, and were in the area looking to scrap the two cars for cash.
All four of the men arrested were from Roosevelt. They were: Gregory Johnson, 45, Christopher Morgan, 34, and Patrick Williams, 21, all of East Pennywood Avenue, as well as Kwame Lowe, 20, of Grenada Avenue. Police did not identify the 15-year-old.
All five were charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
The juvenile was remanded to Family Court. The four men were scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said the five were arrested at 6:28 p.m. after Fourth Precinct officers responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle near Hampton Road.
After witnessing one of the defendants placing the license plate under his shirt, police found that the two cars - a 1996 Nissan Maxima and a 1990 Honda Civic - had been stolen within the previous 48 hours from Roosevelt and Uniondale.
Police said the men wanted to scrap the cars for cash.
