The driver of this Subaru Impreza was pronounced dead at a hospital Tuesday morning, Dec. 9, 2014, after a crash on the Southern State Parkway in West Babylon near Exit 36, Straight Path, State Police said. The car left the parkway and crashed into a tree. Credit: Thomas J. Lambui

State Police said they are investigating a single-car accident that killed a Massapequa man late Monday on the Southern State Parkway in West Babylon.

Frank Schaefer, 35, was driving a Subaru Impreza east on the parkway east of Exit 36, Straight Path, at about 10:36 p.m. when the vehicle went out of control and struck a tree on the right shoulder, police said.

Schaefer was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Schaefer was the only occupant.
