A group of about 30 employees from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Mineola spent time doing chores at the 9-acre Garden City Bird Sanctuary, a former sump that was transformed into a nature preserve by a group of volunteers led by Rob Alvey, the sanctuary's founder and director.
