Mom dies, daughter hurt in Glen Head crash, Nassau cops say

A 55-year-old woman was killed and her daughter, 13, was injured when their car was broadsided by a sport utility vehicle Thursday in Glen Head, Nassau County police said.

The identities of the victims were not released, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the SUV, identified as a 67-year-old woman, was taken by Glenwood Fire Department ambulance to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

She was not charged in the crash, which police said happened at 4:03 p.m.

Police said the victim was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Passat north on Sheppard Street, while the SUV, a 2015 Audi Q5, was headed east on Glen Head Road.

Online maps show that Sheppard Street ends in a T-shaped intersection with Glen Head Road.

Police said there is no record of a stop sign or traffic light at the intersection.

Police could not immediately provide additional details of the accident, but said that upon entering the intersection, the Volkswagen was T-boned by the Audi, which was headed straight on Glen Head Road.

The driver of the Volkswagen died at the scene. Police said the daughter suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Police said the investigation is continuing.
