Hempstead fund-transfer company robbed

A Hempstead company that wires money was robbed by a knife-wielding man Wednesday night, police said.

Around 8:55 p.m., a man entered the back office of Tele-Envio on Main Street and confronted an employee with a knife and demanded money, Nassau police said. The employee gave the robber some money, and the suspect fled through the store's front door, according to police.

The man is described as about 40 to 45 years old, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and heavyset, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and cream-colored pants.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. Calls will remain anonymous.
