A Hempstead man has been charged with grand larceny after police said he stole $62,000 by intercepting an online business deal without either party knowing, Nassau County police said Thursday.

Police said Chukwuebuka Onwuneme, 28, created a fraudulent email address and started emailing with Grace Industries, a company that was trying to buy a truck online from Texas Truck Industries. Grace Industries sent him $62,000 for the truck they wanted to buy, thinking they were dealing with the seller, police said.

The transaction took place on Sept. 25, police said. After an investigation, Onwuneme was arrested at his home at 303 Main St. on Thursday.

Onwuneme is charged with second-degree grand larceny and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
