Cops: Resident thwarts home invasion by fake deliverymen

Nassau County police are looking for two men who attempted to rob a Hewlett home early Tuesday.

Fourth Squad detectives said the two suspects carried cardboard boxes to the front door of a Henrietta Place residence and rang the doorbell at about 12:29 p.m.

The homeowner said the two men wore dark brown jackets similar to those of United Parcel Service deliverymen, police said.

The resident was suspicious and told them to leave the packages on the stoop, but the men told the homeowner that delivery required a signature, police said.

The homeowner unlocked the door, and the suspects attempted to push it open but were unsuccessful, according to a news release.

They were seen entering a dark-colored four-door car that was parked in front of the Franklin School and headed east on Henrietta Place.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All information will be kept confidential.
