In Vermont, Long Islander facing seventh drunken driving charge, police say

BENNINGTON, Vt. - Police in Vermont say a Long Islander has been charged with drunken driving for the seventh time after he was found asleep at the wheel.

The Bennington Banner reports Christopher Marciano, 52, of West Hempstead, pleaded not guilty Monday to a felony count of driving under the influence. Police say he has four drunken driving convictions in Vermont and two in New York.

State Trooper Wayne Godfrey says he responded to a call at 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 15 and found Marciano's vehicle pulled over, the engine running and headlights on. Godfrey says he pounded on the window to wake Marciano. Police say a breath test showed his blood-alcohol concentration to be 0.136 percent. The legal threshold is .08 percent.

It could not immediately be learned if Marciano had a lawyer. A number listed in his name was out of service.
