Great Neck man charged with DWI with 22-month-old son in car

A Great Neck man was arraigned Sunday after being charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated in the village with his 22-month-old son in the car.

According to Nassau County police, the incident occurred at 3:39 a.m. when Jamie Salazar, 28, of 26 Udall Dr., in a 2004 Chevy Blazer, was pulled over for a motor vehicle and traffic stop on Udall Drive.

During the investigation it was determined that Salazar was intoxicated and he was placed under arrest, police said.

At the time of the arrest Salazar's wife and son were in proper restraints in the rear of the vehicle and the child was released to the mother at the scene, police said.

Salazar is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of .08, driving while intoxicated, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Salazar was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Sunday and was released on his own recognizance. He is to return to court July 16.
