A White Plains man was arrested Monday night, charged with stealing more than $8,900 worth of designer watches from a Hicksville mall, after police said a shopper saw him take the merchandise, then followed him to the parking lot -- and called 911 to report the license plate of his car.
Kevin Pedrow, 34, of 100 Manhattan Ave., was stopped by police as his car entered a ramp leading from the Long Island Expressway to the northbound Cross Island Parkway just before 8 p.m.
Nassau County police said Pedrow was arrested without incident, as police recovered a display case containing 36 Michael Kors watches worth more than $8,900.
Pedrow, charged with third-degree grand larceny, was ordered held on bail of $5,000 cash or bond at his arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said that the watches were stolen from the Macy's store at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville. Police said a witness, described only as "a Good Samaritan," saw Pedrow remove "an entire Michael Kors watch display case" -- and leave the mall.
The witness followed Pedrow from the mall, followed his car for a brief time, and called 911 to report the license plate and give police a description of the vehicle.
Pedrow is due back in court Thursday.
