An East Rockaway man was in critical condition Monday, officials said, after his small plane crashed into a Connecticut home as an onlooker recorded the plunge on video.

Benjamin Temple, 46, was taken to Hartford Hospital following the crash about 4 p.m. Saturday in Haddam, a small town about 30 miles northeast of Hartford.

A hospital spokeswoman said he was in critical condition Monday morning.

A video played on Connecticut television stations showed the plane spiraling as it passed over a small body of water and smashed into a private home in a wooded area.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it was investigating. It described the plane as “an experimental fixed-wing aircraft,” but did not release any other details.

A message left at a telephone number listed for Temple in East Rockaway was not immediately returned Monday.
