A man struck by a Long Island Rail Road train shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday near the New Hyde Park station has died, an LIRR spokesman said.
The man’s identity was not released as MTA police sought to notify his family. He was 23 years old.
Service on the Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma and Huntington-Port Jefferson lines was suspended for about two hours, LIRR spokesman Salvatore Arena said Sunday. Train service was fully restored by 2 a.m.
The train left Penn Station at 10:22 p.m. headed to Huntington. It was not scheduled to stop at New Hyde Park and was going full speed when it struck the man, Arena said.
Riders posted to social media about being stuck on the train and observing a person stepping in front of a train and being struck.
