LIRR train hits person on tracks in New Hyde Park, officials say

A person was struck by a Long Island Rail Road train about 11 p.m. Saturday on the tracks near Third Avenue at the New Hyde Park station, officials said.

The severity of the person’s injuries wasn’t immediately known.

The incident involved the 10:22 p.m. train leaving Penn Station, destined for Huntington at 11:28 p.m.

The LIRR has suspended service in both directions between Hicksville and Jamaica.

Multiple trains were delayed leaving Penn Station bound for Huntington, officials said.

Nassau County police said they responded to the New Hyde Park station shortly before 11 p.m. but had not determined if the case was being investigated as a fatality.

MTA officials were leading the investigation and could not be reached late Saturday night.

Multiple commuters posted to social media about being stuck on the train and observing a person stepping in front of a train and being struck.
