LIRR: West Hempstead line resumes service after train hits 'debris'

Service on the West Hempstead Branch was suspended in both directions for a little more than an hour during Wednesday's morning commute after a train hit "debris" on the tracks east of the Malverne station, the Long Island Rail Road said.

Service was restored at about 7:30 a.m.; it had been suspended between West Hempstead and Valley Stream, starting at 6:15 a.m., the LIRR said.

The 5:37 a.m. train from West Hempstead due at Valley Stream at 5:52 a.m. was delayed after hitting the debris.

Several other trains were delayed, and at least one train was canceled, the LIRR said.
