A Long Beach man has been arrested on a fugitive warrant from Massachusetts, where he faces four charges of animal cruelty, Long Beach police said Wednesday.

Dominick Donovan, 51, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and was being held for extradition proceedings in Nassau County Court, police said.

Long Beach detectives and investigators from the Nassau County district attorney's office searched Donovan's home at 161 Hudson St. to make sure there was no evidence of animal cruelty on the premises, Long Beach Police Lt. Eric Cregeen said.

"We didn't come up with anything," the lieutenant said. He said there were two dogs at the house and the city code allows up to 10 dogs in a residence.

Donovan and another man, Jason Gentry, 35, of Swampscott, Massachusetts, were arrested in July after an investigation into animal cruelty that involved the deaths of three dogs, according to The Boston Globe.

The charges against both men are pending.
