Driver, 77, killed in two-car Yaphank collision

Suffolk police are investigating a two-car crash in Yaphank yesterday in which a 77-year-old Mastic man died, authorities said. According to police, Francesco DiMaria pulled his 1990 Honda out of the Baseball Heaven Sports Complex at 350 Sills Rd. shortly before 3:50 p.m.

A 2005 Toyota driven by Karli McDougall, 17, of Middle Island, was traveling south on Sills Road and struck DiMaria, who was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, police said.

McDougal and three passengers in her vehicle were also taken to Brookhaven Memorial and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.


Police seek suspect in TD Bank robbery

Nassau detectives are looking for a man responsible for the robbery of a TD Bank at 2549 Hempstead Tpke. in East Meadow at 3:50 p.m. yesterday.

Authorities said the man passed a demand note to a teller, who handed over an undisclosed amount of money containing a dye pack that activated when the suspect left the bank.

There were six patrons and six employees in the bank at the time of the robbery, authorities said, and no injuries were reported.

Authorities describe the suspect as a male, 20 to 24 years of age, 5 foot 7 inches to 5 foot 10 inches tall with blond hair wearing a blue baseball cap with a white design, black gloves, dark sunglasses, a tan jacket, blue jeans and brown work boots. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
