Luring incidents reported in Bellmore, N. Bellmore, cops say

Nassau County police are trying to locate a man who approached an 11-year-old girl in Bellmore and a 10-year-old boy in North Bellmore, both on Tuesday afternoon — attempting to lure both children into his truck, officials said.

In both cases, police said, the kids became frightened and ran away.

The man was driving an older model white pickup truck and wore a red-and-black baseball cap with the letter B on it, police said.

The first incident occurred when the man approached the girl as she walked on Oak Street at about 3 p.m., motioning for the girl to come over to his truck. Police said the frightened girl fled, instead. About 15 minutes later, police said, the driver approached the boy as he walked along Dewey Avenue in North Bellmore. This time, police said the man told the boy to get into the truck. The boy also ran away.

Police ask anyone with information about the incidents or the suspect to call First Squad detectives at 516-573-6153.

All calls will remain confidential.
