A Freeport man has been arrested after shooting a handgun in a West Hempstead parking lot crowded with people, including children, police said Monday.
Nassau police responded to a "shots fired" report at the Echo Park Pool at 399 Nassau Blvd. at 6:45 p.m. Sunday. Police stopped a vehicle in the parking lot and arrested a man who they believe "had fired the gun" -- identified by police as Nathanial Paulino, 20, of 155 S. Ocean Ave.
Several shots were fired in the parking lot, police said. One bullet struck a vehicle's rear windshield and shattered it, police said. No injuries were reported, police said.
A loaded Ruger model Single .22 caliber revolver was recovered at the scene, police said.
Paulino was charged with second-and-third-degree criminal possession of a weapon; second-degree criminal use of a firearm; first-degree reckless endangerment; third-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
