The Diocese of Rockville Centre is reviewing security at Our Lady of Victory Elementary School after an unidentified man wandered around the Floral Park school for about five minutes Monday, a diocese spokesman said.

The man was caught on video at about 1 p.m. entering the Bellmore Street school through a door designated for students, spokesman Sean Dolan said. The man then walked around unattended and went into a bathroom during a fire drill before leaving, according to Nassau police. When he was seen by faculty members, who tried to stop him, the man left, police said.

Dolan said security is usually "pretty tight" during the day, requiring visitors to enter through a specified door with a buzzer as well as signing in and out. But the man entered through a front door for students, and school officials are still investigating why that door was unlocked, Dolan said. He said there's ongoing construction on a nearby flight of stairs.

"The safety and the security of students and of the faculty is of paramount importance," Dolan said.

He said the diocese is looking at security at the school, but he could not say specifically how it would be addressed because of the ongoing investigation.

Third Squad detectives released a photograph of the man taken from video surveillance. He was wearing a dark gray jogging suit and dark sneakers.
