Man faces DWI charge in Southern State crash

A Hempstead man is facing DWI charges after he crashed his 2006 Nissan into a wooded area along the Southern State Parkway in Bellmore on Saturday morning, injuring three passengers, State Police said.

Errol Brown Jr., 24, of Pierson Avenue, suffered internal injuries and is being held at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, State Police Sgt. William Fennell said.

The three passengers, who suffered injuries to their heads, legs and feet, are being treated at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Fennell said.

The crash occurred at 2:55 a.m. as the Nissan traveled eastbound on the parkway, a half-mile west of Newbridge Road. The driver, Fennell said, lost control of the car, swerved to the right and crashed into several trees along the side of the parkway.

State Police extricated several of the passengers from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life. All are expected to survive.

Brown, who also faces vehicle and traffic law charges, is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Hempstead pending his release from the hospital.

Anyone who witnessed this crash is encouraged to call the New York State Police at Farmingdale at 631-756-3300.
