Nassau police are looking for a bogus taxi cabdriver who robbed a man after picking him and his friend up at a Carle Place club, police said.
According to detectives, the 21-year-old male victim and his 21-year-old male friend got into a 2000 gold GM SUV at the Sugar Club, 246 Voice Rd. in Carle Place, about 3:15 a.m. Thursday to go home in what they thought was a legitimate taxi service vehicle, police said.
It was not, police said.
The driver, a male, stopped near Meadowbrook Road and Michael William Road in Merrick and demanded cash from one of the men. After the victim refused, the driver got out of his vehicle, removed the victim from the SUV and threw him to the ground while punching him in the face, police said.
He then went into the victim's front left jean pocket and took an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then returned to his SUV and fled north on Meadowbrook Road. The victim refused medical attention at the scene. The suspect is described as having a large build, and was wearing a black vest and blue jeans
