Two Syosset teens are facing charges that they robbed a 14-year-old girl in Carle Place on Friday, dragging the victim across the sidewalk until she gave up her purse, Nassau County police said.
Mario Mayancela, 16, and Gregorio Garcia, 16, both of 525 Convent Rd., approached the victim at 1:18 p.m. as she was sitting on the steps in front of Carle Place Farm, a grocery store on Westbury Avenue, authorities said.
Police said the teens harassed the victim and asked to use her cellphone before grabbing her purse and pulling her to the ground. The suspects dragged the victim along the sidewalk for several feet until the purse strap broke, police said.
The teens then fled the scene on foot with the purse. A male witness, who attempted to chase the suspects, told police about their last known location, authorities said.
The victim was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises to her upper back.
Officers from the Third Precinct found the suspects a short time later near Broadmoor Lane and Bert Avenue. The victim's purse, containing cash, was recovered, police said.
Mayancela and Garcia are each charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and will be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
