Cops: Massapequa man stole barge from waterfront home in Seaford

A Massapequa man was arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing a wooden barge being used as a dock from a waterfront home late last month in Seaford, Nassau police said.

Frederick Eggers III, 47, of 70 Stone Blvd., was arrested after police said he and the stolen barge, worth $15,000, were located at John Burns Park in Massapequa by officers from the Seventh Precinct.

It was not clear why Eggers had the barge at the park.

Police said Eggers, using a center console boat, stole the barge, which was tied to a bulkhead at the rear of a home on John Lane, at about 6:20 a.m. on May 28. Eggers is charged with third-degree grand larceny.

He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
