Merrick man charged with stealing debit card, withdrawing cash

A Merrick man has been charged with stealing an acquaintance's debit card and making more than $17,000 worth of withdrawals, Nassau police said.
Police said Matthew B. Leone, 32, stole the debit card of a 68-year-old man whom he knew and made "numerous withdrawals" between January and March. The loss to the victim amounted to more than $17,000, police said.
A subsequent investigation led detectives to Leone, who police said was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon at his home.
Leone, of 8 Alfred Rd., is charged with third-degree grand larceny. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
