A traffic stop for a seat belt violation led to a weapons arrest Sunday on the Southern State Parkway near the Meadowbrook Parkway on the North Merrick-Roosevelt-Uniondale border, police said.
State police said Miguel Ramos, 24, of 127 East Parkview Dr., Shirley, was arrested after the 1:40 p.m. stop. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon with a previous conviction, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a loaded firearm, second-degree criminal contempt, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and several traffic infractions. He faces arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said a trooper from the Valley Stream barracks stopped Ramos for a seat belt violation as he drove his Mitsubishi Galant on the Southern State and found Ramos had a suspended driver's license.
The car was impounded and police said that, while creating an inventory record of the vehicle, a loaded semiautomatic pistol was found in the car.
