A missing man who was the subject of a Nassau "Silver Alert" bulletin has been found in a hospital, where he had been since a one-car accident Monday, police said.
Nassau County police had issued the alert for Brian Woodyard, 69, who had last been seen leaving his home on Sycamore Avenue in Merrick Monday, headed for Deer Park in his 1998 black Oldsmobile.
He was found in Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre.
Police said Woodyard had been involved in a crash on the Southern State Parkway. A State Police report on the incident said the accident occurred at 5:18 p.m. on the westbound parkway near Eagle Avenue, Exit 18. No other details were available.
It also was unclear if hospital workers or State Police learned Woodyard's identity and contacted police missing persons.
A "Silver Alert" is akin to the "Amber Alert" used to locate missing children. Police alert media, hospitals, law enforcement agencies and the public that a senior citizen or individual suffering from Alzheimer's, dementia or some other type of cognitive disease has gone missing. Police said Tuesday they could not detail Woodyard's condition. They also could not say the nature of the injuries he suffered in the accident.
Calls to his home were not immediately returned.
