Nassau police seek two who forced car off road in West Hempstead, robbed driver and passenger

Nassau County police are investigating a roadside robbery in West Hempstead early Sunday morning.

Police said two men, both 19, were in a car on Hempstead Turnpike when another driver cut their car off and began to yell at them through the window of a four-door silver sedan. Police said that driver continued to follow the two men, who were then forced to pull over on Hempstead Turnpike and Stratford Road.

Police said the drivers got out of their cars and the man in the silver sedan yelled at the victim and punched him in the face, striking his lip and cheek, police said.

A second man then got out of the silver sedan and, wielding a gun, demanded cash and other objects from the passenger.

The victims gave up cash, two iPhones, and credit cards, police said, and the two suspects fled.

The victim who was the driver was treated for his injuries at a hospital and later released, police said. His passenger was uninjured, police said.

Anyone with information can call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS, and calls are anonymous.
