Nassau police seek wedding ring thief

Nassau police say they are looking for a wedding ring thief.

The robbery occurred about 1:11 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of a Holiday Farms store in Roslyn Heights when a man stole the wedding ring of a 58-year-old woman who was sitting in her 2013 Mercedes-Benz, police said.

The victim, who was not injured, had just loaded her car with groceries and was sitting inside when the suspect demanded her jewelry and "took a wedding ring that was on her finger," outside the store at 374 Roslyn Rd., police said.

The suspect, described as being a male about 30 to 40 years old, fled on foot eastbound on the South Service Road of the Long Island Expressway, police said. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants, police said.

Police Aviation and Canine Unit assisted in the search. Both Roslyn Middle School and Locust Lane School were locked down as a precaution.

Detectives request that anyone with information regarding this crime contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
