Nassau police seek would-be robber in Oceanside

Nassau police are looking for a man who tried to rob a 67-year-old woman in Oceanside on Thursday afternoon as she was getting out of her car.

Police said the woman was parked on Henrietta Avenue and had just gotten out of her 2000 Lexus at about 12:15 p.m. when the man approached her, flashed a black handgun and demanded her car keys.

The woman started to scream, police said, alerting neighbors who called 911. The suspect then fled on foot westbound.

The victim wasn't hurt in the incident, police said.

The would-be robber is described as being about 20 years old, wearing all black clothing and a black mask that covered his face.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-2444-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
