Nassau's Red Cross chapter is opening a reception center at Glen Cove High School for people on the North Shore forced from their homes because of the windy, rainy storm, spokesman Sam Kille said.
At the school, Red Cross staff are set to help evacuees figure out where they're going to stay during the recovery, he said.
"It's basically a warm place to go to where you can get food and snacks," Kille said.
The school is one of about 20 locations in Nassau County that already has emergency cots on site for people to sleep if necessary, Kille said.
"We hope we don't have to do that, but we're already ready to," Kille said. He added: "If need be, we'll turn it into a shelter."
The school is at 150 Dosoris Ln. near New Woods Road.
