Nassau police on Tuesday announced the Second Precinct Community Policing Center will operate out of a temporary home at the South Farmingdale Fire Department while a new center is constructed in Levittown.
The temporary site, at 44 Beverly Rd., at the corner of Beverly and Merritts roads, will begin operation at noon on Thursday — the same day construction of the new community policing center is set to begin.
The phone number for the center will remain 516-573-6800, police said. For emergencies, residents should still call 911.
The policing center is scheduled to return to its current site on North Wantagh Avenue in November 2017, when construction of the new building there is slated to be completed.
The construction project is part of a countywide plan to modernize and replace old, outdated buildings.
Acting Police Commissioner Thomas C. Krumpter previously has said that many of the existing station houses and policing centers, built in the 1950s, are “undersized” and “dilapidated.”
