Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Cove Neck is holding a National Trails Day hike on Saturday.
The free hike through the site’s fields and woodlands, which will start at Old Orchard Museum, is from 1 to 4 p.m.
National Trails Day, organized by the American Hiking Society, is held the first Saturday of June each year. It dates to the late 1980s, according to the society’s website. Events take place in every state.
Sagamore Hill, the site of a former home of President Theodore Roosevelt, also announced summer hours.
The site will be open daily until Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then return to its off-season Wednesday-to-Sunday hours. Other events at the historic site this month include a June 19 Father’s Day bird walk in which participants will look for some of the same birds that Roosevelt identified and listed; the June 26 Oyster Bay Music Festival, and a June 30 discussion of Darrin Lunde’s book on Roosevelt’s diaries and expedition journals.
