Oyster Bay Town will issue $25 million in bonds for construction of a parking garage near the Hicksville transit hub - bringing the project's total cost so far to $65 million.
The new bonds, approved Tuesday by the Oyster Bay Town Board, were needed after officials decided to build part of the garage underground, town consultant Hal Mayer said.
The bonds will pay for excavation and extra design costs, as well as the purchase of an adjacent home on Duffy Avenue and improvements outside the garage, Mayer said.
The 1,400-car, four-level garage will have two levels underground. The garage is expected to open by the end of next January, Mayer said.
