A New Cassel man faces criminal mischief charges in connection with graffiti sprayed on a building on Post Avenue in Westbury, Nassau County police said Saturday morning.

David Reyes, 18, was arrested Friday about 11 p.m. after police officers found him walking near 250 Post Ave. carrying a can of spray paint in his jacket pocket and with paint on his hands, police said.

The officers were responding to a call from someone who reported to have seen Reyes painting a building, police said.

The manager of the building responded to the scene and reviewed the security camera footage, which showed Reyes spray-painting the doors of the building, police said.

As the officers attempted to place Reyes under arrest, he began to struggle with them, twisting his arms and refusing to allow them to place him in handcuffs, police said.

Reyes, of 3 Third St. in New Cassel, is expected to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead. He is charged with third-degree criminal mischief, making graffiti, resisting arrest and possession of a graffiti instrument, all misdemeanors.
