The basketball hoops at Michael J. Nuzzi Field have been reinstalled after New Hyde Park officials had them taken down. Village officials in August said a string of fights and loud arguments had gotten out of hand and caused unwanted noise for nearby residents.

Nuzzi Field borders Floral Park Recreation Center and is surrounded by a residential neighborhood.

The confrontations prompted New Hyde Park’s board of trustees to remove the hoops until village officials could implement a new identification system.

Under the new system, a park attendant will have a list of names and addresses of every village resident for reference, and will check the IDs of those who plan to use the court. Youth will be issued a special ID from village hall and adults will use their driver’s license.

With the ID restriction, only village residents will be allowed to use the court.
