A Nassau County judge Sunday ordered a Rockville Centre man arrested Saturday in the shooting death of a Hempstead man last month to be held without bail.

Keon O. Williams, 37, of 20 Meehan Lane, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. Judge Martin Massell ordered that Williams be remanded to jail during his arraignment in Nassau District Court in Hempstead. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Police said Tyree Sheppard, 34, was found wounded, lying on the sidewalk on Burnett Street in Hempstead, shortly before 4 p.m. on April 14.

The resident who found him flagged down a Hempstead police officer. Sheppard was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Further details about the shooting were not available in court documents.
