Residents can dispose of hazardous waste during the Town of North Hempstead’s Stop Throwing Out Pollutants event between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. April 8-9 at North Hempstead Beach Park.
Residents can bring items such as aerosols, household chemicals, pesticides, disinfectants, fertilizers, bulbs, thermostats, rechargeable and lithium-ion batteries, televisions and computers to the event. Oil-based paints will be accepted, but not latex and water-based paints.
Residents can also bring sensitive documents for shredding. Documents brought will be shredded on site then sent to a pulping mill for recycling. There’s a limit of six file storage boxes per participant.
At the event, Big Brothers Big Sisters will have a clothing donation area. The organization is accepting gently-used clothes, stuffed animals, electronics, toys, sporting equipment, shoes, books, small area rugs, bikes, scooters, luggage, picture frames and more.
Town officials will host more hazardous waste events throughout the year. For more information, call 516-869-6311 or visit northhempsteadny.gov/stopprogram
