Free microchipping will be available for North Hempstead pets at an upcoming clinic sponsored by the town.
The clinic, which is open to cats and dogs, will be on Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the North Hempstead Animal Shelter.
Microchipping offers a safe method of electronic identification if a pet is lost. The procedure, which involves implanting a tiny chip beneath the pet’s skin, will be conducted by a licensed veterinarian or technician.
All cat owners must bring a current rabies vaccination certificate, and dog owners must have a valid license.
Residents must register in advance by calling 311 or 516-869-6311. The North Hempstead Animal Shelter is at 75 Marino Ave., Port Washington.
