An officer from the Second Precinct may have saved the life of a runner who collapsed during the Bayville 5k Run on Thursday evening, Nassau police said.
Police said the officer was assigned to a traffic detail for the 5K when a 58-year-old female runner collapsed nearby at 7:15 p.m. When the officer got to her, the woman was unresponsive and turning blue, police said.
The officer and a passerby performed CPR on the woman, and the officer prepared to use an automatic external defibrillator on her, police said.
After the officer delivered one shock with the defibrillator, the woman regained consciousness and was able to speak, police said. She was taken by Nassau County ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
