The Town of North Hempstead board approved this week awarding a $12-million bid to reconstruct Manorhaven pool.
Reconstruction of the 1964 pool had been delayed because of the downturn in the economy, Supervisor Jon Kaiman explained at a Tuesday night board meeting.
"We're confident we'll get the work done," he told residents. "By next season, you'll have a spectacular pool."
Islandia-based Stalco Construction is expected to begin work on the pool after Labor Day. New features include: an interactive spray and play area, increased shallow areas for small children and a double-chute water slide.
Kaiman said pool fees are expected to remain the same.
"This pool is extremely important to our community," he said, "and we will make sure the construction effort will move as expeditiously as possible."
