A fire in the kitchen of an East Meadow Dunkin’ Donuts late Monday left a worker injured and forced the store’s closure, Nassau County police and fire officials said.
An employee sustained minor burns to the hands and was treated at an area hospital, said James Hickman, supervisor of the investigations division at the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire was considered to be accidental and resulted in “heavy fire damage and some structural damage” to the rear of the establishment, with “moderate to severe heat and smoke damage” to the retail area, he said.
That resulted in the store’s being closed, he said.
Police said the fire started in the kitchen at the doughnut shop at 2675 N. Jerusalem Ave. about 10 p.m.
