A man who stole medicine from a CVS pharmacy in Oyster Bay was arrested Sunday evening after he re-entered the store minutes after the first theft, pulled a fire alarm to create a distraction, and attempted to steal even more drugs, Nassau County police said.
Police said Jason P. Critelli, 36, of 1 Carls Hill Rd., Oyster Bay, was arrested by officers responding to the alarm he had reported. He was charged with third-degree burglary and with second-degree falsely reporting an incident, police said.
He is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said that Critelli walked into the CVS on Pine Hollow Road at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday and entered the pharmacy section, which was closed behind a locked gate.
Critelli then stole "several prescription medications," police said, then, after going outside to place them in his car, returned to the store -- and pulled a fire alarm "to create a distraction." But, police said, after pulling the alarm, Critelli was unable to re-enter the locked pharmacy area.
He was then arrested by officers responding to the alarm.
