Pair use pit bull to rob men in Hempstead, police say

Two men were robbed of an iPod, cell phone and cash in Hempstead after their assailants allegedly threatened them with a pit bull, Nassau County police said.

Carlos Mena, 16, of Belmont Parkway, and a juvenile accomplice were arrested on charges of allegedly robbing two men, ages 20 and 17, outside an address on Jerusalem Avenue in Hempstead Wednesday at about 9:30 p.m., police said.

Police said Mena also was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon after one of the victims was hit in the face. The injury did not require medical attention.

Mena was scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead. The juvenile, who was not identified, will appear in Family Court, police said.
